Aruba Study is a project I shot in the summer of 2024. For this work, the focus is tactile images: each image should evoke a feeling of familiarity within the viewer. We all know the feeling of sand in every knook and cranny and the bittersweet pain of laughing until you've satisfied your workout goal for the day. In these images, I also wanted to illustrate and pay hommage to the great layered identity of Arubans. Colonizers from Dutch, Spainish, and English speaking countries infilltrated their native lands creating an extremely blended nation. Now, with Papimeinto firmly cemented as their officially-recognized colloquial language, Arubans embrace the blend of cultures that they call home.
