Body

This photography series explores the complex relationship between my body, my faith, and my place within the church. The body of Christ—empowering yet daunting—symbolizes both sanctification and the weight of condemnation. Raised in the white Catholic Church, my Blackness was often marginalized, creating a tension between the sacred and the profane. Baptism into the Black church was a transformative renewal, where I found a place that celebrated my body and affirmed my identity. The Black church, a symbol of resilience and strength, has long stood as a pillar of spiritual and social change, and through this work, I aim to honor that legacy. This series reflects my journey of reconciling my body with the body of Christ, learning to embrace the desires within me as I align with God’s will. It is a meditation on the unshakable body of Christ—one that has transformed both my spirit and my understanding of self.
