This in-progress series represents a deep exploration of my familial lineage and the complexities of identity within the Black American experience. It grapples with the poignant absence of connection—an aching longing for deeper ties to both my heritage and my extended family. As a Black American, the search for ancestral roots often feels shrouded in mystery, with gaps in genealogy and family records extending beyond just a few generations. Through the deliberate use of stitching and collaging techniques, I physically intervene in these elusive spaces, attempting to reconstruct moments and memories that are not mine. In doing so, I seek to reshape history, attempting to fulfill a yearning for connections that, though absent, remain an intrinsic part of my identity.
