"Wash Day" is a contemplative exploration that elevates the ritualistic process of Black womens’ hair care. The voyeuristic style of the video reflects the persistent monitoring, appropriation, and surveillance of Afro-textured hair. Often devalued by societal standards, kinky hair carries a complex relationship with its wearer, shaped by ingrained negative socialization and stigma. This work seeks to highlight the deep, personal connection between black women and their hair, challenging these perceptions. The video's length and silence confront the viewer, either inducing fatigue from the act of monitoring or inviting them to engage in the process as an immersive experience.
